BLACKSBURG, Va.— The Orange volleyball team lost to #23 Georgia Tech, 3-0, on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Sophomore Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk paced the Orange offense with nine kills and had five digs, while senior Ella Saada added six kills and five digs. The Orange (5-6 overall, 5-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) will play host Virginia Tech (5-7) on Sunday at 1 pm (ACCNX).
Syracuse jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set before the Yellow Jackets scored five straight points to take a 5-4 lead. Neither team could open-up more than a two-point lead until Georgia Tech went ahead 16-13. The Orange responded with a 6-2 run, including two kills from Saada, to take a 19-18 advantage. The Yellow Jackets then closed out the first set victory with a 7-4 run. The back-and-forth set featured nine tie scores.
In the second and third sets, Georgia Tech jumped out to early leads en route to winning them 25-15 and 25-10.
Scouting the Hokies
Last weekend Virginia Tech lost to No. 14 Notre Dame and Florida State, 3-1. Graduate student Kaity Smith leads the Hokies with 3.12 kills per set, while freshman Brie Postema records 4.55 assists per set and leads the team with 15 service aces.
The Series vs. Virginia Tech
The Hokies have a 7-6 advantage in the all-time series against the Orange, but Syracuse has held the upper hand over the past three seasons. The 'Cuse have won four matches in-a-row against Virginia Tech dating back to a home victory in straight-sets on October 27, 2017. Across the four-match winning streak, the Orange have only dropped one game to the Hokies.
