RALEIGH, N.C. – Syracuse women's tennis lost to No. 12 North Carolina State, 7-0, on Sunday, March 21 in Raleigh, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolfpack (11-3, 6-2) jumped out to an early lead after earning the doubles point. The nation's second-ranked pair of Alana Smith and Anna Rogers defeated 'Cuse graduate student Natalie Novotna and freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, at No. 1, 6-1, and Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli beat graduate students Miranda Ramirez and Guzal Yusupova, 6-2, at No. 3. The No. 2 match between NC State's Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami, who are ranked No. 16 in the country, and sophomore Polina Kozyreva and junior Sofya Treshcheva was called with the Wolfpack duo leading, 4-3.

NC State swept the singles matches for the 7-0 final and its fourth straight win. No. 35 Rogers defeated Kanapatskaya, 6-0, 7-6 (4), on court 1, while #23 Smith won a tight match against Yusupova, 7-6 (2), 7-5. At No. 3 singles, No. 38 Reami defeated Novotna, 6-0, 6-3.

In the closest match in singles play, Ramirez battled back after losing the first set, 7-5, to win the second set, 6-1. However, Daniel won the third set, 7-5, for the victory. Lexi Keberle defeated Orange sophomore Zeynep Erman, 6-4, 6-3, on court 5, and Rencheli posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Kozyreva at No. 6.

UP NEXT
Syracuse (4-8, 3-6) will face its sixth consecutive ranked opponent when it travels to Atlanta to face No. 8 Georgia Tech on Friday, April 2.
