Orange Offense Comes Alive in 7-1 Win

Syracuse (7-9) scored three runs in each of the first two innings in a 7-1 win at Pittsburgh Friday night. Alexa Romero threw a complete game with a season-high 12 strikeouts for the win. The Orange improve to 3-6 in the ACC and return to action for a double header against the Panthers at 2 p.m. (ACC Network) and 4:30 p.m. (ACCNX).Â
A pair of hits and an error by the Panthers gave Syracuse an early 3-0 lead. Calista Almer, who reached on base with a leadoff single, scored on a throwing error for a 1-0 lead. Neli Casares-Maher hit a sacrifice fly to plate Angel Jasso and Gabby Teran made it a 3-0 lead with a solo home run.Â
Romero struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning and set the tone for her first complete game of the season. The Orange added three more runs in the top of the third when Angel Jasso hit her first home run for the Orange. Pitt got one run back in the bottom of the third inning but Romero was dealing, working back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. 'Cuse added an insurance run in the top of the fifth and threatened again in the top of the sixth inning but let two runners on base.
The Orange had seven runs on 10 hits in Friday night's win. The Panthers move to 9-15 overall and 4-10 in the ACC. The two meet again for a double header Saturday and wrap up the four-game ACC series Sunday at 4 p.m. (ACCNX).Â
