Semifinal Saturday: Orange, Cardinals Meet at Noon
3/6/2021 1:31:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Not one, but two buzzer beaters helped advance Syracuse to the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament semifinal against No. 1 seed Louisville on Saturday, March 6. Tip-off is set for Noon on ACC Network.Â
In Friday's quarterfinal against Florida State, Emily Engstler ignited a comeback win when she hit a half-court buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter to cut Syracuse's deficit to three. Nine minutes and fifty-nine seconds later it was freshman Kamilla Cardoso's turn with a last-chance layup as time expired giving Syracuse a 68-67 win over the No. 4 seed Seminoles.
The Orange are 1-1 all-time vs. Louisville in the ACC Tournament and will face each other in the postseason for the second time in as many years. Last year, Louisville, the top seed, earned a 71-46 win in the quarterfinals against the No. 8 seed Orange. In 2016, No. 3 seed Syracuse upset No. 2 seed Louisville 80-75 in the semifinals to advance to the program's first ACC championship game.Â
Syracuse and Louisville were set to meet twice in the regular season but a COVID-related pause for the Cardinals declined the opportunity. On Jan. 21, then-No.1 Louisville earned a 67-54 win at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.Â
Fans can watch the action live begining with the pregame show on ACC Network at 11:30 a.m. The winner of Saturday's game will face the winner of No. 2 seed NC State and No. 3 Seed Georgia Tech at Noon on Sunday on ESPN2.Â
