Softball Splits the Weekend Series with Boston College

The Syracuse softball team lost both games in Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference double header at Boston College on Saturday and split the four-game series 2-2. The Eagles won game one 5-3 and edged Syracuse 3-1 in game two to win both games of the afternoon twin bill.Â
In game one Boston College scored three runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead. The Orange responded with two runs on an RBI single by Paris Woods in the top of the fourth inning. The Eagles extended their lead to 5-2 with a two-run home run by Kristin Giery in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Alex Acevedo pinch hit in the top of the sixth and drove in a run to make it 5-3 but the Orange were unable to complete the comeback, losing by two runs.Â
Lindsey Hendrix (2-2) was given the loss in the circle. She pitched the first three innings allowing three earned runs on six hits before Jolie Gustave came in to start the fourth inning. Gustave threw 2.2 innings and gave up the Eagles home run before Hendrix returned in the bottom of the sixth to get the final out of the inning.Â
Five different Orange recorded a hit in the loss.Â
In game to, it was Syracuse who got out to an early start when Lailoni Mayfield singled up the middle to score Paris Woods for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second Gianna Boccagno drove in a pair of Eagles to put BC on top 2-1. A double down the left field line in the next inning by Nicole Giery made it a 3-1 ballgame and the Eagles would hold on to win. Syracuse threatened in the top of the fifth with bases loaded but Susannah Anderson was able to escape the jam BC.Â
Kaia Oliver threw 2.1 innings in the loss. She allowed the first three Eagles runs on six hits before Alexa Romero came in to pitch in relief. Romero retired the first 10 batters she faced in order but back-to-back walks in the had the Eagles threatening. Romero escaped the jam and finished the game with no runs and one strike in three and a third innings of work.Â
Woods had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 at the plate.Â
Syracuse returns home to host No. 9 Florida State for a four-game series beginning Friday, April 16 at Skytop Stadium.Â
