
#9 Florida State Uses Long Ball To Beat Orange

Syracuse softball team (15-15 overall, 8-12 ACC) dropped both games against #9 Florida State (31-6, 19-2) in Sunday afternoon's twin bill at Skytop Stadium, losing 3-2 in eight innings and 13-1 in six innings. The Seminoles earned a sweep of the four-game Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) weekend series.Â

GAME ONE
Syracuse got on the board first. In the bottom of the fifth, Angel Jasso blasted one over the right-field fence, her first homer of the campaign, to give SU a 1-0 advantage. Florida State responded with a leadoff home run in the top of the sixth by Anna Shelnutt to even things at 1-1.
The Orange regained the edge in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Toni Martin that plated pinch runner Olivia Pess. Syracuse's Kaia Oliver relieved Lindsey Hendrix with two out and two on in the seventh. Kalei Harding greeted Oliver with a single to right that scored Kiersten Landers and pushed the contest into extra innings.
The Seminoles opened the eighth inning with a single from Cassidy Davis. D'Aun Riggs came in to run for Davis and, after advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, scored the game-winning run on an infield miscue by the Orange.

GAME TWO
Florida State took charge of the second game with a three-run first inning and never trailed. Kalei Harding hit a two-run homer and Cassidy Davis added a round tripper to put the Seminoles ahead, 3-0, before the Orange came to the plate.
Syracuse's Jasso led off the bottom of the second inning with her second home run of the afternoon, but the Orange were unable to score again.
Florida State added to its margin with Harding's second two-run home run in the third, and Dani Morgan hit her first of two homers in the fourth. Morgan's sixth inning blast brought in three runs and provided the final margin.
