This Week in Syracuse Softball: Orange Host Hokies

The Syracuse softball (19-16 overall, 11-13 ACC) returns home on Friday, April 30 for a four-game ACC series with No. 20 Virginia Tech. The Orange and Hokies will play a single game at 4 p.m. Friday, a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and will conclude the series Sunday at noon. All four games will be streamed on ACCNX through the ESPN app.
The Orange are fresh off a10-6 win over Albany on Tuesday. Last weekend 'Cuse went 3-1 in a four-game road series at Virginia to improve to 11-13 in the ACC. Syracuse's Alexa Romero struck out four and didn't allow a walk in the finale vs. Virginia where the Orange won 1-0 and Romero was a hit shy of a perfect game. Romero is fifth in the ACC in strikeouts and has a 2.58 ERA through 94.1 innings in 22 appearances. Neli Casares-Maher leads the team with a .352 batting average and has five home runs this season and is joined by Gabby Teran and Toni Martin for the team lead in home runs.
No. 20 Virginia Tech (28-12 overall, 19-11 ACC) was swept by Notre Dame last weekend. The Hokies lost a midweek matchup with Liberty on Wednesday in a contest that took nine innings to decide and have lost six of their last nine games. Kelsey Brown has the hot bat for the Hokies with a .426 average. The outfielder is on a five-game hitting streak, recording three hits in each of her last two games. Pitcher Keely Rochard ranks third in the nation and leads the conference in strikeouts. Rochard has recorded 11 shutouts, the most in the ACC and second most in the country.
No fans will be admitted into Skytop Stadium for the weekend series but are encouraged to watch live on ACCNX through the ESPN app.Â
