de Vries, van den Nieuwenhof Named NFHCA All-America

Two members of the Syracuse field hockey team have been selected as National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America selections, announced Tuesday night during the NFHCA's virtual convention. Charlotte de Vries becomes the 14th two-time NFHCA All-American in program history while Eefke van den Nieuwenhof earns All-America honors after being named a first team selection for both All-ACCÂ and NFHCA All-Region (Mideast).
De Vries, a first team selection, led the team in scoring with five goals and three assists for a team-best 13 points during her sophomore year. She appeared in all 16 games for the Orange scoring in five different games. She had a pair of game-winning goals and tallied a season-high three points with a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over St. Joseph's on March 7. The Wayne, Pa., native has tallied 44 points during her Syracuse career.Â
Van den Nieuwenhof, who was picked for the NFHCA All-America second team, played in 15 games for Syracuse scoring three goals and adding two assists as the Orange's center back. She helped hold opponents to 1.97 goals per game this season and recorded a pair of defensive saves. The Utrecht, Netherlands native was named All-ACC Tournament Team after scoring a pair of goals in the fall tournament, one each against Duke and North Carolina.Â
The Orange went 8-8 this season and finished the fall season winning four of their last five games. In the spring, Syracuse picked up wins over St. Joseph's, Towson and Duke, their third win over the Blue Devils this season.Â
