Rising junior Charlotte de Vries is the latest Syracuse field hockey player to be named to the US Women's National Team. She is the newest addition of Orange to make the roster in recent years. Former 'Cuse stars Alyssa Manley, Jess Jecko and Laura Hurff have all represented Team USA in the last five years.Â
De Vries, a two-time NFHCAÂ All-American made the roster after competing at the Young Women's National Championship (YWNC), held at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va., where first-year U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Anthony Farry and his staff named the 2021-22 U.S. Women's National Team roster.Â
The Wayne, Pa., native led Syracuse in scoring in each of her first two seasons on The Hill and has tallied 20 goals during her time in orange. De Vries has twice been named All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and has earned All-Mideast Region First Team honors in each of the last two years en route to being named a All-American in 2019 (second team) and most recently 2020 (first team.)
Athletes participated in the YWNC from June 15 through June 20, for four intense days of competition and two training days as the opportunity for selection was on the line. The pool of athletes consisted of top collegiate and post-collegiate players and members of the 2019-20 U.S. Rise and U-21 Women's National Teams and U.S. National Development Team and 2020 USWNT.
The USWNT will resume centralized training at the beginning of August. They will dive into preparation for the 2022 Pan American Cup, an FIH Hockey World Cup qualifier, set for January 20 through January 30 in Santiago, Chile. The USWNT will also be partaking in the third season of the FIH Hockey Pro League, which begins October 6, but USA will have their first contest on February 16, 2022.
