
Orange Head to Hail State Invitational

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange will play in the Hail State Tournament against the tournament host, Mississippi State, in addition to Jackson State and South Alabama, in a six-match round robin format from September 17th through 20th at the Newell-Grissom Building. Syracuse (8-1 overall) opens the tournament against Mississippi State on Friday at 7 p.m. (SEC Network+) and will play Jackson State at 3 p.m. on Saturday. 'Cuse will close the tournament with a match against South Alabama on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Fans are welcome to attend in full capacity provided COVID protocols, including masking indoors, are followed.
Making Her Mark-ova
Junior Marina Markova was named co-ACC Player of the Week after her standout performance at the Yale Invitational. In the Cy-Hawk Series Tournament last week, she tied for the third highest percentage in program history in an individual match with 20+ attempts, earning a kill .667% of the time she attacked. Markova earned tournament MVP honors in the first two tournaments of the season. She ranks third in the ACC in kills per set (4.38), total kills (140) and points per set (5.08), and second in points (162.5). Her points rank 19th nationally.
Coaching Success
Head coach Leonid Yelin has led the Orange to their best start in his 10-year Syracuse tenure. Syracuse opened the season with seven straight wins. The last time Yelin guided a team to seven consecutive wins to start a season was in 2005 at Louisville, when he led the team to a 31-3 season, including an NCAA regional semifinal appearance.
