Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse tennis is back on the court this weekend at the ITA Super Regionals, with play taking place at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Over the course of four days, from Friday, October 21st to Monday, October 24th, all six players on the Orange roster will be competing. Draws have yet to be announced.
Zeynep Erman and Shiori Ito will be representing the 'Cuse in singles play. At the ITA Northeast Regionals at the beginning of the month, Erman captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sasha Wood (Yale), while Ito defeated Sophia Zaslow (Yale) 6-3, 6-4. The wins qualified both players for this weekend.
With their rankings in the region automatically qualifying them for Super Regionals, Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva will join Erman and Ito as the final two Orange competing in singles play.
Kimoto and Kozyreva also automatically qualified for doubles play at Super Regionals.
Capping off doubles play for the 'Cuse will be the pair of Ines Fonte and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya. The duo captured the doubles title at the ITA Northeast Regionals with an 8-6 victory over Bendetto/Hofflander (Brown), earning them a spot at this weekends' tournament.
In last year's tournament, Kanapatskaya played singles, going 4-0 and reaching the semifinals, before a loss to Victoria Hu of Princeton. Ito fell in the first round of singles play 7-5, 6-3 to Maia Sung, also of Princeton.
In doubles play, Ito was paired with Kimoto. The duo was defeated in the round of 16 6-2, 6-4 by Kulhava/Wei (Temple).
With victories, Syracuse can earn spots at the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, California in early November.
