GENEVA, N.Y. – After becoming the only team in the ACC to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons, a trio of Syracuse University field hockey players were named NFHCA All-America.The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) announced its All-America lists, sponsored by TheLineUp.
Quirine Comans and Charlotte de Vries were named First Team All-America while Eefke van den Nieuwenhof was selected Second Team All-America. The trio, all co-captains this season, have all earned All-America honors multiple times in their Orange careers.
De Vries is the first four-time All-American in program history, and has now earned First Team honors twice (2020, 2022) along with Second Team plaudits in 2019 and Third Team a year ago. Van den Niewuenhof is the eighth player in Syracuse field hockey history to earn three All-America honors while Comans is one of 16 Orange players with multiple All-America plaudits.
An NFHCA Mid-East All-Region selection, de Vries was one of the top point-getters for the Orange this season, collecting 40 points thanks to a team-best 12 assists and 14 goals. A Second-Team All-ACC pick, de Vries led the Orange with seven game-winning goals, including the deciding strike in the 5-2 win over No. 7 Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. One of the program's all-timers, de Vries racked 99 points over the last four seasons, the sixth-most in program history for a career.
Now a two-time All-American, Comans was selected to play in the 2022 NFHCA Senior Game as well. The First Team All-ACC selection led the Orange in points (44) and goals (17) while adding 10 assists to her ledger. Her 17 goals are the ninth-most for a single season in program history, one of which was an overtime game-winning goal against No. 18 James Madison.
Earning second and third team honors in her freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively, van den Nieuwenhof was a force for the Orange both on the backline and on the attacking penalty corner unit. Despite missing five games to injury, van den Nieuwenhof scored 25 points behind 10 goals and five assists, ranking third on the team in total points. She was a key part of an APC that converted corners nearly 20 percent of the time.
