
Orange Win First Two Games of the Season

MONROE, LA.- The Orange took both of their two games in their season opening day in first day of the Best on the Bayou Classic. They defeated Mississippi Valley State University, 9-2, in their first game and Southern University, 22-0 in their second game.Â
Syracuse opened their first inning of play in their season opener against MVSU with five runs to take an early lead. The Orange loaded the bases and Angel Jasso nailed at wo-run rbi single up the middle to score the first two runs. The Delta Devils' pitcher walked two Orange, resulting in a Syracuse run, who were brought home by Paris Woods with another two-run rbi single. Syracuse added one more run to the board in both the second and third inning to bring the score to 7-0.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Delta Devils responded scoring two runs from a single after a set of walks. Syracuse managed to hold MVSU while adding two more runs of their own to seal the game at 9-2 after seven innings of play.
In the game against Southern University, the Orange had another strong first inning scoring 14 runs. Jude Padilla, Neli Casares-Maher, Kelly Breen and Angel Jasso all homered in the opening drive. Padilla's scored three runs, Casares-Maher's and Breen's shots both scored two and Jasso's was a solo shot.Â
Syracuse added seven more runs in the second inning by stringing together a combination of singles and walks. Breen hit her first collegiate double to drive in the final run of the game in the fourth inning, making the score 22-0 at the end of five. Pitchers Lindsey Hendrix and Summer Clark held Southern to only three hits and totaled six strikeouts between the two of them throughout five innings of work.Â

- Angel Jasso led the offense with seven hits, five runs and six runs batted in.
- Texas transfer Ariana Adams had eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.
- Eight Orange had multi-hit games.Â
- Freshman Taylor Posner had three stolen bases in the game against Southern.
- Six freshmen made their collegiate debuts. Kelly Breen, Tessa Galipeau and Taylor Posner were among the six and each recorded their first hits of their college careers.
