
Orange Wrap Week 1 of Outdoor

Jaheem Hayles won his first race of the outdoor campaign to headline the second day of the FSU Relays – one of a pair of meets that Syracuse competed at, in addition to the Raleigh Relays, on Friday.
Hayles crossed the line in 14.11 seconds of the 110-meter hurdles. The Orange then took places three through seven to dominate the top of the event. Naseem Smith (14.46), Anthony Vazquez (14.72), Xayvion Perkins (14.77), Isaiah Lewis (14.92) and David Peters (15.12) were the 'Cuse competitors.
Shaleah Colaire got the season started with a time of 13.83 in the 100-meter hurdles, which earned her a third-place finish. Teammates CJ Fox and Kirstyn Schechter were not far behind in sixth and seventh.
Vazquez, Lewis, Hayles and Trei Thorogood won the 4x100-meter relay for the Orange this afternoon as well, finishing in 41.76 seconds.
Colaire then anchored the Orange's 4x100-meter run team that took second. Kaleia Arrington, Kahniya James and Janelle Pottinger also were part of the relay squad, which finished in 46.96 seconds for runner-up honors.
Kennedy Tarley (58.39) took third in the 400, followed by Janelle Pottinger in 59.90 seconds, which was sixth.
James ran in the 100-meter dash in addition to her relay. She turned in a mark of 11.76 seconds, which earned her fifth. Thorogood was seventh in the men's event in a time of 10.69 seconds.
At the Raleigh Relays, five 'Cuse men raced in their first 10ks of the year. Sam Lawler led the way in 29:32.71. Alex Comerford (29:40.26), Noah Beveridge (29:50.87), Jack Whetstone (30:05.53) and Ethan Wechsler (30:07.87) also ran.
Kevin Robertson made his steeplechase debut in a time of 8:52.53. His finish was good for 12th in a 59-runner field.
Sage Brooks (4:31.84) competed in the 1500-meter run and Emma Eastman raced in the 5k, finishing in 17:21.13.
The Orange are back in action next week at the Stanford Invitational.
