
Orange Split Doubleheader with Griffins

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse (20-15 overall, 3-10 ACC) split its midweek double header with Canisius (15-14 overall, 5-3 MAAC). Canisius won the first game 4-3 and Syracuse won the second game 12-1 in five innings.
The Orange brought the score of the first game within one run of the Griffins in the third inning after trailing 4-1 at the end of the first. They were unable to push a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning despite having runners in scoring position. In the second game, Syracuse took and early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. A nine-run fourth inning pushed the Orange passed the Griffins to complete the game in five innings.Â
Summer Clark and Ariana Adams saw time in the mound in the first game. Lindsey Hendrix pitched all five innings of the second game.Â
GAME ONE
A hot start for the Griffins in the first inning led the Orange to a 4-0 deficit going into their trip to the plate in the bottom of the first. Angel Jasso singled through the right side to start the half inning. She got herself to third base following a stolen base and then advancing to third on a wild pitch. There were runners on first and third when Kelly Breen came to the plate. Her ground out to first base scored Jasso from third to put the Orange on the board with one run.Â
A two-run home run from Neli Casares-Maher narrowed the deficit to just one run in the bottom of the third. The score remained at 4-3 for the rest of the game despite the Orange having the winning run positioned at second base in the bottom of the seventh inning.Â
GAME TWO
The Orange started the second game with an early lead. Jasso led off the bottom of the first inning with her second hit of the day, a double to right field. Tessa Galipeau came up behind her nailing a shot to center field. The bases were cleared by Casares-Maher with her second home run of the day, a three-run shot to left center field. Canisius added a run in the top of the second off a solo homerun, its only run of the game.Â
After a quiet third inning, the Orange added nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to create an 11 run lead. Back-to-back singles from Carli Campbell and Paris Woods started the rally. Breen knocked in two runs with her single to left center field scoring Woods and Jasso, who reached on a fielders choice. Jude Padilla had a hand in the scoring with her double down the left field line. Breen and Galipeau scored on the hit. Yamila Evans' single created havock in the field causing an error that allowed Padilla to score from second. The score was 8-1 after nine batters came to the plate.
After batting through the lineup, Campbell, who led off the inning, came to the plate to launch another single to center field scoring the ninth run of the inning. Jasso's second trip to the plate in the fourth inning produced her third hit of the day, a three-run RBI triple, making the score 12-1 going into the top of the fifth. The Orange defense, led by Hendrix on the mound with 10 strikeouts, held the Griffins' offense in the top of the fifth to conclude the game.Â
OF NOTE
The Orange travel to Lousiville for a three-game ACC series this weekend. The first game will be on Friday, April 15 at 5:00 pm and the second game will be Saturday at 1:00 pm. The series will conclude on Sunday, April 17 at 12:00 pm.Â

- Casares-Maher hit her seventh and eigth home run in today's games. She led the Orange at the plate going three-for-six with two home runs and a double on the day.
- Jasso recorded a stolen base in each game, marking her 19th on the season.Â
- Five Orange batters had multi-hit games. Casares-Maher, Jasso, Padilla, Evans and Campbell all produced at least two hits.Â
- Hendrix produced double-digit strikeouts for the second time this season with her 10 today.Â
- Jasso is on a five-game hitting streak.Â
