
Three Home Runs Lead Syracuse to a 6-2 Victory

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Three home runs led Syracuse to a 6-2 victory against Niagara. Sophomore Olivia Pess hit the first home run of the game and fifth-year Neli Casares-Maher had two of her own throughtout the game.Â
Syracuse improves its record to 22-20 while Niagara falls to 12-20.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orange got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Pess. Geana Torres scored on the hit after reaching base on a fielder's choice.Â
Purple Eagle's Shayna Myshrall homered in the top of the third to add a run for Niagara.
The third run for the Orange came in the bottom of the third. Paris woods began the inning with a lead off walk and stole second base to position herself to score. Tessa Galipeau's hard ground ball to second base forced an error and managed to score Woods from second. Casares-Maher came to the plate next to drill a two-run home run to right center field to make the score 5-1.Â
Casares-Maher added her second home-run of the night when she led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot.
A sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the seventh inning added one more, unearned, run for Niagara making the final score 6-2.Â

NEXT GAME
The Orange host North Carolina in their last home, regular season series next weekend. The series will begin on Friday, May 6 with games on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8. Syracuse will honor its seniors after the game on Saturday.Â

- Syracuse pitchers, Ariana Adams (4), Lindsey Hendrix (3) and Kaia Oliver (1), compiled eight strikeouts.
