Senior Day has arrived for the Orange as the tennis squad wraps up their home slate for the spring 2022 season with a match against Boston College at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Apr. 10. Syracuse (8-9, 2-8) and BC (6-9, 3-7) were scheduled to meet to kick off ACC play back in February, but the match was called off due to COVID precautions. Sunday's match will be the 41st between the two programs, the most between the Orange and any opponent.Â
Syracuse re-entered the ITA rankings this week reaching No. 71, the program's highest ranking since before ACC play began in late February. Sofya Treshcheva and Shiori Ito remain ranked as a top doubles duo at No. 60; the two were ranked as high as No. 45 in early March. Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva made their season debut on this week's doubles rankings at No. 67.Â
Sofya Treshcheva will play her final home match with the Orange as she is celebrated on Senior Day. Treshcheva has recorded 69 career victories, 42 of which are doubles wins. The Russian native has been ranked as a top-50 doubles duo in three of her four years with the program. Treshcheva has played a large role in Syracuse's success in her years with the Orange, having been a part of two NCAA tournament runs.Â
Boston College enters its final strecth of ACC road matches ranked at No. 73. Syracuse last defeated BC, 5-2, in the 2021 spring ACC opener. Then-freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya took the win out of the No. 1 singles spot that day with a three-set triumph over BC senior Yufei Long. Polina Kozyreva also picked up a singles victory in last year's match.
The Eagles are 3-7 in ACC play with wins over Virginia Tech, Clemson and Louisville. BC also features a top doubles pairing in Marice Aguiar and senior captain Laura Lopez. Natalie Novotna and Kanapatskaya defeated BC's duo, 6-4, in the Orange and Eagles' clash last February. Lopez, who recently notched her 100th singles victory, plays primarily out of the No. 1 position for the Eagles.
Syracuse notched its eighth victory of the season last weekend; Coach Younes Limam has now achieved that mark in all eight of his seasons leading the 'Cuse. The Orange hit the road next weekend to face No. 8 Miami and No. 41 Florida State before beginning the ACC Tournament on Apr. 20.Â
