
ACC Championships Await for 'Cuse Track and Field

Championship season is upon us for the Orange track and field programs, with the ACC Championships set to begin on Thursday.

THURSDAY EVENTS
Shaleah Colaire and Kirstyn Schechter will be the first Orange off the blocks in the meet, racing at 6 p.m. in the 400-meter hurdles. Both are in the third of three heats in the event that will see the winners, plus next-five times advance. Colaire has the fourth-fastest time in the league this season among the field. Duke's Lauren Hoffman (55.98) enters as the favorite.
Kaleia Arrington will race in the 200-meter dash prelims at 6:35 p.m.. Arrington will be in the fourth heat of the event, which will see the heat winners plus four more runners on time advance to Saturday's final. Edidiong Odiong of Florida State enters with the best time this season (23.03).

Immediately following will be the men's 200-meter prelims, that will feature Trei Thorogood and James Nmah in the third and fifth heat, respectively. The winner from each heat in the men's races, plus three times will advance.
Silas Derfel is the squad's lone competitor in the 1500-meter prelims. The event will feature three heats, with the top-three finishers from each heat, plus three time qualifiers advancing to a 12-man final.
The first final up for the Orange will be the women's 10k. Abigail Spiers enters with the fourth-fastest seed time to date this year after she turned in a time of 34:17.86 earlier this season. She'll be joined by Ellie Lawler, Sophia Jacobs-Townsley, Emma Eastman and Emily Lane in the 28-person event. Notre Dame's Katie Rose Blachowivz has the best time in the conference tis season at 34:04.78.
The Orange men have the top-two times in the league this year that are entered in the men's 10k final on Thursday night at 8:40 p.m. Joe Dragon (28:34.09) and JP Trojan (28:35.16) are the fastest season-bests in the meet. They'll be joined by Nathan Henderson, Noah Beveridge, Alex Comerford and Sam Lawler in an event that six of the 30 competitors are Syracuse runners.
FRIDAY EVENTS
Three of the 16-hurdlers entered in the 100-meter hurdles will come from 'Cuse, as Colaire, Schechter and CJ Fox are all entered in the race that will begin at 6 p.m. The top-two fastest from each of the two heats, plus the next four fastest times will advance to Saturday. Colaire owns the seventh-fastest PR in the meet.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Jaheem Hayles will lead the way with a seed time of 13.57 seconds. In most years, that'd potentially make him the favorite, however he'll have to contend with Florida State senior Trey Cunningham (13.10). They're in different heats however, as Hayles is in heat one with the top-time in the race. Four of the competitors in the second heat are from 'Cuse, where Isaiah Lewis, David Peters, Anthony Vazquez and Naseem Smith are all entered. The top-two times from each heat, plus the next four fastest times will advance.
At 7:15 p.m., the 100-meter dash prelims get underway. The 'Cuse women have one entered runner in the event, Kahniya James. James has the third-fastest time in her six-runner heat this season at 11.60 seconds (wind aided). The event features four heats, with each heat's winner plus the next four fastest times advancing to Saturday's finals. Thorogood will represent the Orange men at 7:30 in the event. The fellow freshman will look to improve on his PR of 10.66 from earlier this season.
The 3000-meter steeplechase will be a final on Friday night, with Annie Boos likely to be in contention. She has the second-best time this season amongst the field (10:08.52). Teammate Justus Holden-Betts is also in the mix among the 17-runner final. Notre Dame's Olivia Markezich is the only person with a better season-best than Boos at 10:00.90.
Kevin Robertson has the sixth-fastest men's steeplechase time in the conference this season and will look to score for the Orange at 8:45 on Thursday night. Virginia Tech's Ben Fleming is the favorite with a seed time of 8:41.14.
SATURDAY EVENTS
Spiers, who scored in two events at the ACC Indoor Championships in February, will look to do the same at outdoors after her 10k on Thursday. She'll lead a group of five SU women in the 5000-meter finals at 7:40 p.m. Spiers will be joined by Boos (who is also entered in the 3000S), Savannah Roark, Caroline Kirby and Olivia Joly in entering the meet.
Always a loaded men's field for the Orange, Dragon, Henderson, Matthew Scrape, Jack Whetstone, Nathan Lawler and Trojan are all entered in the men's 5k final at 8:05 p.m. on Saturday as the group will conclude the meet for 'Cuse.
