Syracuse standouts Buddy Boeheim and Cole Swider signed NBA two-way contracts promptly after the completion of the draft on Thursday night. Boeheim inked with Detroit while Swider reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The salary in a two-way NBA contract is based on whether the player competes in the NBA or the G-League.
The Pistons are quite familiar with Boeheim. Detroit general manager Troy Weaver was an assistant coach at Syracuse from 2000 to 2004. The club's assistant general manager and president of the Motor City Cruise, Detroit's G-League team, is former Orange assistant Rob Murphy (2004 to 2011).
Boeheim earned first team All-ACC honors as a senior. He led the ACC in scoring average (19.2 ppg.), free-throw percentage (.884) and minutes played average (38.0). Boeheim scored in double digits in 28-of-32 contests last winter. He finished his Syracuse tenure ranked second in career 3-point field goals (309) and 13th in career points (1,765)..
Swider transferred to Syracuse prior to last season following three years at Villanova. He stepped right into a starting role and was with the first unit in all 33 contests. He averaged 13.9 points per game and a squad-leading 6.8 rebounds per outing. Swider had a season-high 36 points in an overtime loss at North Carolina.
Both players are likely to participate in the NBA Summer League, scheduled for July 7-17.
