After a highly successful career on and off the turf at J.S. Coyne Stadium, Syracuse University field hockey standout Claire Cooke has been named as a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
A four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad selection, Cooke was also announced as a recipient of the Jim & Pat Thacker Scholarship from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
After earning her Bachelor of Science in human development and family science from the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics, Cooke will continue her postgraduate studies at Syracuse University, working toward a Masters of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, focusing on Speech-Language Pathology, one of the top programs in the country. Cooke, who completed her fifth year of NCAA eligibility in the fall of 2021 during her first semester of graduate studies, aspires to become an elementary school-based speech-language pathologist
Cooke was a four-year starter for the Orange field hockey team that played in two NCAA Tournaments, including the 2021 Elite Eight. Cooke scored nine goals and had 10 assists during her Orange career. She earned All-ACC Academic Team honors and was on the ACC Academic Honor Roll throughout her career. Off the field, she served as the social media chair of the SAAC at Syracuse and was the field hockey program's Team IMPACT leader since the team's addition of Angelina Facciolo in November 2020. Team IMPACT is a Boston-based non-profit organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for children facing serious chronic illnesses through the power of team.

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
All former student-athletes who earned an undergraduate degree from an NCAA member school are eligible to be nominated by that school for an NCAA graduate degree scholarship, regardless of when they received their undergraduate degree.
