Shemanova Named To 2022 ACC Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released the 2022 Volleyball Preseason All-ACC Team and the Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday evening. Three-time All-ACC standout and 2018 ACC Freshman of the Year, Polina Shemanova represents the Orange on the 18-player preseason team.
The St. Petersburg, Russia native was fourth in the ACC in kills (3.86 avg/s, 421 total), and points (4.40 avg/s, 480 total), while she was sixth in service aces (0.33 avg/s, 36 total) last year.
Shemanova is a 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and earned 2021 AVCA East Region accolades, and was named to the 2021 All-ACC Second Team and All-ACC Academic Team.
After posting an overall record of 17-13 (6-12 ACC) last season, Syracuse was 15th place (31 points) in the preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches.
Looking ahead to the 2022 season, the roster includes six returners, along with first-year head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam bolstering the roster with five newcomers.
The Orange are set to open their season on the road in Charlotte, N.C., where the team will face Campbell (Aug. 26), Wofford (Aug. 27), and UNC Charlotte (Aug. 27), at the Charlotte Invitational.
