SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Volleyball team (4-5) split the doubleheader action on Friday, emerging victorious over Hofstra (3-6) and fell to Yale (4-1).
In the day's first matchup, the Orange took down the Pride, 3-1 (25-21, 25-16,19-25,25-17). Syracuse did not allow Hofstra to score more than 21 points in the four-set match, while also leading in points (67-58), kills (48-47), aces (10-9), blocks (9-2), assists (41-36), and digs (54-44).
In the four-set show four Orange logged 10 or more kills. Polina Shemanova had 12, Bre Walp followed with 11, while Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk and Naomi Franco had 10 apiece. Both Shemanova and Lokhmanchuk logged a double by reaching double digits in digs.
In the nightcap 'Cuse fell in straight sets to Yale (18-25, 23-25, 25-22). The energy in the women's building was electric, but it wasn't enough to help force set four after a close set three. Shemanova and Lohkmanchuk logged double-doubles yet again in the evening matchup.
Across both games redshirt freshman Raina Hughes and graduate student Bre Walp both made a serious impact for the orange, as Hughes recorded four huge solo blocks and Walp recorded 12 total kills.
Syracuse will be back in action on Friday, September 16th, as they hit the road to face Bryant in the Dog Pound Challenge in Storres, Connecticut
