#11 Yellow Jackets Sweep Orange

Laila Smith paced the Syracuse volleyball team with seven kills in a 3-0 loss to No. 11 Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building. The Orange dropped the first set, 25-16, the second 25-17 before the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep with a 25-14 win in the final set. Syracuse moves to 2-20 overall and 0-12 in the ACC while Georgia Tech improves to 19-3 overall and 10-2 in league play.Â
Syracuse led early in the first frame, winning two of the first three points but the Yellow Jackets responded to take a 5-4 lead. The Orange knotted it at 5-5 but Georgia Tech continued to chip at the lead and took the first set by eight, 25-17. The scored changed twice and the set was tied on three occasions but the Orange were unable to overcome the deficit.Â
In the second set, The Orange improved their attack percentage but were no match for GT who hit a .353 clip in the second frame. Syracuse recorded eight kills in the second set but lost 25-16 after hitting 44 percent in the frame. Georgia Tech took a six-point lead but the Orange answered with three-straight points to bring the match to 16-13. The Yellow Jackets closed the match on a 9-3 run to win by their largest margin of the match.Â
Syracuse's attack was the strongest in the final frame. The Orange combined for 11 kills in the set but ultimately lost the third set 25-14.Â

Syracuse travels to Boston College for a mid-week ACC matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 1. First serve is set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.Â
