Orange Lose at #5 Clarkson
11/25/2023 7:51:00 PM | Ice Hockey
The third period was the difference in Syracuse's 5-0 loss at #5 Clarkson on Saturday at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y. The Orange (3-12-2 overlal, 0-5-1 College Hockey America) held the Golden Knights (16-0-2, 5-0-1 ECAC Hockey) to one goal in the first 41 minutes, but Clarkson capitalized on two Syracuse penalties to score power play goals and two even strength goals in the final period for the win.
Â
"I thought we had good first and second road periods," said head coach Britni Smith. "We did a good job being disciplined defensively and our offense came from that. We got into penalty trouble, specifically in the third, and made it really tough on ourselves.
Â
"We are back to conference play next weekend for a double-header against RIT. We are certainly looking to pick up much needed league points."
Â
Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley recorded 42 saves, the second-best performance in her 16 games in Orange. She has recorded at least 30 saves in 11 games this season and has 508 total, which ranks 16th on the Syracuse single season record list. Forward Darci Johal had a team-leading four blocked shots, increasing her season total to a team-best 24.
Â
Syracuse will play home-and-home series against RIT next weekend with the first game on Friday, Dec. 1 at Tennity Ice Pavilion at 6 pm and the second game on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Gene Polisseni Center at 3 pm.
