Field Hockey Draws Liberty in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The Syracuse University field hockey team earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament as the Orange will take on Liberty University in the first round. The NCAA announced its 18-team field Sunday evening on NCAA.com.
The Orange and Liberty (17-2), ranked sixth in the most recent NFHCA Coaches Poll, will clash on Friday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Duke University. Syracuse (10-7) gathered in the team locker room Sunday night as the Orange learned of their at-large bid for a third-straight season.
Third-seeded Duke will host the weekend pod and takes on Patriot League champion American Friday at noon from the Blue Devils' Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
The winners of the first-round games will meet back at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on Sunday for a 1 p.m. showdown.
Syracuse and Liberty have met once previously on the field hockey pitch, a 3-2 Orange victory on Long Island during the 2016 season. The two schools will meet in the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
Syracuse finished the regular season with a 10-6 overall record, earning the five seed for the ACC Tournament. The Orange enter the NCAA Tournament with the 12th-best RPI score in Division I while carrying the fifth-best scoring average in the country (3.05 goals per game).
