SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A month-long homestand, longtime rivalries, and another challenging slate highlight the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team as the 2024 schedule was announced Thursday morning.
Syracuse opens the 2024 season with a seven-game homestand at the JMA Wireless Dome, leading off on Saturday, Feb. 3 with Vermont and again on Monday, Feb. 5 versus Colgate. Capping a busy week, the Orange welcome Manhattan to the Dome for a Friday, Feb. 9 game.
Mid-February sees the Orange host Maryland, on Feb. 17 before the first-ever meeting between Syracuse and Utah on Feb. 21. Army West Point returns to the schedule, a rivalry that dates back to 1921, for a Feb. 28 showdown. The seven-game homestand concludes on Saturday, March 2 as the Orange take on High Point at the JMA Dome.
The Orange hit the road for the first time with a trek to Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2024 Crown Lacrosse Classic, taking on Johns Hopkins to round out the March 9 event. The following weekend, the Orange take on two-time defending CAA champion Delaware on March 16 at a site to be announced at a later date.
Syracuse returns to the Dome to kick off ACC action with a midweek tilt against Duke on Wednesday, March 20 before hitting the road for four straight games.
That road swing begins locally at Hobart on Saturday, March 23 as the teams vie for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy once again. Conference play continues on March 30 at Notre Dame before a short midweek jaunt to Ithaca to face another longtime, in-state rival, Cornell, on April 2.
The final road trip of the regular season pits Syracuse against North Carolina on Saturday, April 13 before the 2024 regular season finale against Virginia on April 20 back at the JMA Dome.
The Orange, who had a top 15 scoring offense last spring, return five of the top seven scorers from that team, including ACC Freshman of the Year Joey Spallina (36g, 32a, 68p) and Owen Hiltz (24g, 29a, 53p).
Defensively, Syracuse returns its entire starting unit from last spring, including All-American netminder Will Mark (207svs, 54.2 percent) and top takeaway man Saam Olexo (26cts, 53gbs).
This year's incoming class, ranked ninth by Inside Lacrosse, includes 11 fresh faces, including Senior All-Star Game standouts Trey Deere and Jake Spallina. Syracuse also welcomed eight transfers, most notably Princeton transfers Jake Stevens and Sam English, Lehigh transfer Christian Mulé, and Tufts transfer Mason Kohn.
Dates are subject to change based on broadcasting schedules. Game times will be announced at a later date on Cuse.com.
