Girard Chooses NBA Draft Process, Transfer Portal

Senior guard Joseph Girard III, the 17th-leading scorer in Syracuse basketball history, has announced his intention to enter the NBA Draft process and the transfer portal.
Girard's statement on social media included that he plans to retain his college eligibility at this time. College underclassmen have until April 24 to declare for the NBA Draft. Student-athletes who decide to return to college must withdraw from draft consideration by June 1. Girard is eligible for one more season of college basketball.
GIRARD AT SYRACUSE
A native of Glens Falls, N.Y., Girard started 123 of the 125 games he has played at Syracuse. He accumulated 1,652 career points and joined a list of 19 Syracuse greats who tallied at least 1,600.
A prolific 3-shooter, Girard ranks third in career 3-pointers (297) at Syracuse, trailing only Gerry McNamara (400) and Buddy Boeheim (309). Girard produced two of the top 20 single-season 3-point totals with 89 in 2021-22 (13th) and 88 this past season (tied for 14th). He also shot his way onto the ACC career 3-point ledger. He is tied for 13th with current Duke Coach Jon Scheyer.Â
His .863 career free-throw percentage ranks second in Orange history. Current Syracuse associate head coach Gerry McNamara owns the top spot (.888).
Girard was on the 2023 Jerry West Award Preseason Watch List. He finished the campaign with a career-best 16.4 points per game average, which led the Orange and ranked sixth in the ACC. He ended up third in season free-throw percentage (.857), 3-point average (2.75) and 3-point percentage (.381) among ACC performers.
