Amanda Vestri moved to 16th in NCAA history with her new personal best time in the 10,000-meter run at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night.
Vestri (32:08.26) was just shy of Paige Stoner's (32:07.06) Syracuse-best mark from 2019, which currently ranks 14th all-time. Vestri was third in the event at Stanford, behind Emily Venters of Utah (31:48.35), who posted the sixth-best mark in NCAA history.
Teammate Savannah Roark wasn't too far off Vestri's blistering pace, finishing 15th in a personal-best time of 32:49.76. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (33:43.04) and Ellie Lawler (34:14.82) raced in the second section of the event, placing 15th and 20th. Lawler bettered her previous PR by over 41 seconds in the race.
Stoner's school record is one she can still hold on to for now. During the indoor season, Vestri took down two 'Cuse records (3,000 and 5,000) on her way to a First Team All-America finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 5,000-meters.
In the men's 10k, Paul O'Donnell led the way in 28:42.54, which was sixth in his section. Assaf Harari (28:55.74) took 19th in his first collegiate 10k, followed by Alex Comerford (28:58.14) and Nathan Lawler (28:58.70), who each set new personal bests.
Noah Carey shattered his previous career best in the 5,000-meters, racing to a time of 13:38.19. His time placed him 11th in the fast section of the event, followed by Nathan Henderson (13:48.43/18th). Karl Winter (14:05.00) also competed at the event.
Abigail Spiers (16:07.88) ran in the 5k for the 'Cuse women, finishing 12th.
The Orange also had sprinters competing in Texas on Friday, between the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.
At Texas, Jaheem Hayles took to the track for the first time since his fourth-place finish at the NCAA indoor championships. He finished 10th in the 110-meter hurdles in 13.54 seconds. The star-studded meet saw him miss the finals by 0.005 seconds.
Anthony Vazquez (14.08) and Emmanuel Joesph (14.19) also competed for the Orange in the event.
Shaleah Colaire placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.65 seconds, which was her best time since April of 2021 in the event, 0.04 seconds off her PR.
Kaleia Arrington (12.04 seconds) raced in the 100-meter dash for the Orange women, as did Daijon Richards (10.83) and Carlton Landingham (11.32) for the men. Â
The Orange 4x100-meter relay team of James Nmah, Hayles, Vazquez and Trei Thorogood placed seventh overall in 41.18 seconds.
At the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State, just around 40 minutes away, Thorogood set a new PR for the second-straight week in the 200-meter dash. He shaved nearly three tenths off what he ran in Tallahassee last time out, finishing in 20.69 seconds. His time was second overall.
Xayvion Perkins also placed second in his event, the 400-meter hurdles, by crossing the line in 51.87 seconds, which earned him a new personal-best time. Elijah Mallard was 11th (53.85 seconds) in the event.
Colaire finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:01.34, followed by Kirstyn Schechter in 1:03.71.
