The Orange look to claim the Goes Trophy for the third-straight race vs. Cornell and Navy
The No. 4 ranked Syracuse men's rowing team returns to action in Ithaca, N.Y., this weekend to face No. 12 Cornell and No. 21 Navy for the 66th running of the Goes Trophy Race. Cornell is set to host this weekend for the annual race as Navy was slotted to host last year, but due to inclement weather the race was moved to a neutral site. In addition to the Goes Trophy, the Stagg Cup is up for grabs for the team with the best finish across the varsity, 2V8+, and 3V8+ races.
Syracuse is coming off an impressive weekend in California at the Pac-12 Challenge with victories in both the varisty and 2V8+ over then No. 6 Northeastern and No. 12 Wisconsin. Cornell is coming off a loss to No. 4 Harvard on April 2, on the Cayuga Inlet racecourse while Navy had victories against Saint Joseph's, No. 15 Drexel, No. 21 Holy Cross, Hobart and Jacksonville this past weekend at the 2023 Occoquan Invitational.
The Orange look to build more momentum as a full squad on Saturday. The last time these teams met, Syracuse finished the 2,000-meter course on Lake Carnegie, N.J. in 5:30.90 with Cornell finishing under five seconds behind 'Cuse and Navy rounding out the varsity eight field with a time of 5:39.00. The Orange second and third varsity boats won their respective races to win the Stagg Cup for the second consecutive time. If Syracuse retains the Goes Trophy this year, it will be the first time the team has won three straight times since 2006-08 and would be the first time in program history that the Orange have won the Stagg Cup for three consecutive meets.
Racing begins at 8:30 a.m. with the 3V8+ and concludes with the varsity four at 10:20. Fans are encouraged to head over to the Collyer Boathouse for a 10:45 a.m. trophy presentation.
Spectators planning to attend the race are encouraged to park near the Boatyard Grill 525 Old Taughannock Blvd., Ithaca, NY) or from the west side of the canal at Cass Park (701 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850).

About the Goes Trophy

About the Stagg Trophy
Presented to the team compiling the most overall points in the heavyweight races between Navy, Cornell, and Syracuse, the Stagg Trophy is named after Norman G. Stagg, the late Tompkins County judge and former Cornell oarsman.
Following Saturday's race, Syracuse will have two weeks to prepare for the Lake Morey Invite where the Orange will race for the Packard Cup against No. 7 Dartmouth College, the Conlan Cup against No. 11 Boston University, and No. 22 Georgetown University on April 29-30.
