Syracuse Ventures to Vestal For Binghamton Doubleheader

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball pauses its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule for a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 19 against Binghamton. The two-game set kicks off at 2:30 p.m. at the Bearcats Softball Complex, while game two is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
Both games in Vestal will be streaming live on ESPN+.

ORANGE UPDATE:
- The Orange lost a series against North Carolina in Chapel Hill over the weekend, dropping two-out-of-the-three games at Anderson Softball Stadium.
- A Syracuse rally fell short in the game one 7-5 loss. The Orange cut a six-run deficit to two in the top of the sixth frame but couldn't complete the comeback in the seventh inning.
- The Orange took game two in dramatic fashion, erasing a three-run North Carolina lead in the top of the seventh to even the series. Freshman pitcher Madison Knight secured the 5-4 win with a go-ahead three-run home run.
- North Carolina won the series on Sunday, 6-0.
- Knight led the Orange at the plate in Chapel Hill, logging three hits and three RBIs across eight at-bats.
- Freshman outfielder Madelyn Lopez is excelling in her first year with the Orange, leading the team in batting average (.341), slugging percentage (.476) and on-base percentage (.423).
- Head coach Shannon Doepking's 2023 squad is the youngest in the ACC, as the 10 freshman are the most on a roster in the conference.
- Underclassmen account for 70 percent of hits, 67 percent of RBIs, 66 percent of runs scored and 68 percent of at-bats.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:
- Binghamton is 20-12 on the season, on pace for its first winning season since 2016.
- Sophomore utility fielder Lindsey Walter leads the America East in batting average (.512) and on-base percentage (.564).
- The Bearcats lead the conference in runs scored (152) and are second in earned run average (2.78).
- Head coach Jess Bump is in her second season as head coach. The two-time first-team America East All-Conference selection has a 42-35 record in her coaching career.
THE SERIES:
- The Orange and Bearcats will meet for the 26th and 27th times on the softball field on Wednesday afternoon.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series, 22-3.
- The two programs last met in 2019, as infielder Neli Casares-Maher powered the Orange to a 14-0 win with a two-hit, six RBI performance.
- Over the past ten games in the series, Syracuse holds an 8-2 record.
