
Orange Offense Leads Doubleheader Sweep of Lafayette

EASTON, PA. – Syracuse softball's offense led the way in a 10-2 run-rule victory over Lafayette in the series opener. The Orange bats generated a 12-3 lead in game two before action was paused due to severe weather.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:
Syracuse (17-22-1, 4-12-1 Atlantic Coast)Â jumped out to a big lead, scoring five runs in the first two innings. In the first frame, singles from infielder Tessa Galipeau and starting pitcher Madison Knight set up a one-run RBI single from catcher Laila Alves, 1-0.
In the second inning, the Orange scored four runs on six consecutive hits. With one out, infielders Rebecca Clyde and Ryan Starr lined base hits down the right field line. Galipeau drove a base hit into right field, scoring Clyde, 2-0. Infielder Kelly Breen cleared the bases with a deep triple to center field, doubling the Orange advantage, 4-0. Outfielder Angel Jasso split the infielder with an RBI single, driving in the final run of the second inning, 5-0.
Lafayette (6-31-1, 2-10 Patriot League) added two runs in the third inning. With two outs, infielder Harlie Brickett put traffic on the base paths after getting hit by a pitch. The Leopards loaded the bases for infielder Megan Coyle, who dropped a two-run RBI single in center field, 5-2.Â
A five-run sixth inning lifted Syracuse to the run-rule victory. Starr lined her second hit of the day, setting up Galipeau's second RBI of the afternoon. After Jasso was hit by a pitch, a double steal brought Galipeau home. The bats continued to roll, as a double from Knight drove in Jasso, followed by an Alves single for her second RBI of the day. Outfielder Taylor Posner closed the game out with an RBI double to deep right field, 10-2.
Syracuse scored 10 runs on 15 hits while committing one error. Knight threw her second consecutive complete game, striking out six batters while allowing two runs on six hits. The 15 hits are the most in a game for the Orange this season. Syracuse scored double-digit runs for the first time since Feb. 19 against Iowa. Galipeau, Alves and Knight all finished with three hits, marking the first time since 2020 that three different batters logged three hits in a game.Â

The Orange offense scored in the first inning for the fourth consecutive game, bringing across three runs to open the second game of the doubleheader. With the bases loaded, Knight hit a ground ball in the infield, scoring two runs on a fielding error, 2-0. Alves recorded her fourth hit of the doubleheader in the next at-bat, as her RBI double scored the third run of the game.
In the second, Breen hit a deep shot to left field for her second home run in the last three games, providing 'Cuse its fourth run of the game.Â
The hosts pulled two runs back in the fourth frame. Consecutive hits from outfielder Paige Sandidge and infielder Kaya Ciccone-Cozart scored a pair of runs, 4-2.Â
The Orange offense maintained its rhythm in the fifth inning. With Breen on second, Knight skied a double to deep center for her third RBI of the doubleheader, 5-2. In the sixth, the Orange kept producing runs, as a three-run home run from Galipeau put the game out of reach, 9-2.Â
Lafayette logged its first extra base hit of game two in the sixth inning, scoring on a solo home run from Coyle, 9-3.
Syracuse scored an additional three runs in the seventh inning. Singles from Clyde, Starr and Galipeau extended the Orange advantage, 12-3. Play was paused in the seventh inning due to severe weather, as contest was concluded on Sunday afternoon.
The Orange finished with 12 runs on 14 hits. Breen and Galipeau combined for six hits and five RBIs. The 12 runs are the most scored in a game by the Orange this season.Â
