ITHACA, NEW YORK - Junior left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix threw the 12th no-hitter in program history in a 6-0 victory against Cornell. It's the first seven-inning no-hitter since Alexa Romero no-hit Virginia Tech on March 9, 2018.Â
Hendrix's dominant showing is the second no-hitter this season, marking the first time in program history that two different pitchers threw a no-hitter in the same season.Â
Syracuse won game one, 5-0, as Madison Knight tossed the second complete game shutout of her career.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:Â
A scoreless first inning was followed with a pair of runs from the Orange in the second inning. With runners on the corner, outfielder Taylor Posner drilled a shot to deep left field for a bases clearing double, 2-0.Â
The Orange offense found more success in the fourth frame. Outfielder Angel Jasso kick-started the inning with a leadoff single, stealing second to put a runner in scoring position for Knight. The freshman drove a line drive single, scoring Jasso for the third run of the game, 3-0.Â
In the sixth inning, 'Cuse manufactured its fourth run. With Posner on first and two outs, infielder Ryan Starr crushed the ball down the right field line for her first career RBI-triple, 4-0. Pinch hitter Olivia Pess capped the Orange scoring display with her first home run of the season to straight away center field, 5-0.
Syracuse finished with five runs on seven hits, as Posner led the Orange with two-RBIs on two hits. Knight kept up her impressive form in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while striking out nine batters.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:
Syracuse maintained its offensive rhythm, scoring first in the second frame. After a leadoff single from Jasso, outfielder Madelyn Lopez orchestrated a perfect bunt, forcing a Cornell fielding error. Jasso scored on the error and Lopez advanced to second, 1-0.Â
In the third inning, the Orange doubled its lead. With Posner on third, Knight drove a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Posner, 2-0.Â
Catcher Jude Padilla drove a ball to deep left field in the third inning, tripling the Syracuse advantage with a solo home run, 3-0. Â
The Orange kept cruising in the sixth inning, expanding their lead with a series of hits. With the bases loaded, Galipeau sliced a single past the shortstop, scoring the fourth run of the game. Knight pushed Syracuse's lead to six, scoring two runs after two fielding errors from the Big Red.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hendrix took the circle looking to secure the no-hitter. The Orlando, Florida native struckout the first batter of the inning. Hendrix forced the next two batters to ground out, completing the historic accomplishment. Hendrix finished the game with six strikeouts, allowing three baserunners on two walks and one hit-by-pitch.Â
