Syracuse Returns To ACC Action Against Virginia

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball returns to the Skytop Softball Stadium for a pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference series against Virginia. The Orange and Cavaliers kick the series off on Friday, Apr. 28 with a doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 1 p.m. start, while game two is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start. The series concludes on Saturday, Apr. 29 at 1 p.m.
Syracuse celebrates the legacy and incredible career of former pitcher Jenna Caira by retiring her #29 jersey following the game against Virginia on Saturday. Caira becomes the fourth women student-athlete to get their jersey retired at Syracuse. Admission to Skytop Softball Stadium is free of charge.
ORANGE UPDATE:
- Syracuse returns to ACC play on a five-game winning-streak, sweeping Lafayette and Cornell.
- The Orange took game one, 5-0, as Madison Knight tossed the second complete game shutout of her career.
- Lindsey Hendrix threw the 12th no-hitter in program history in the 6-0 game two win.
- 'Cuse scored 11 runs on 17 hits in the doubleheader against the Big Red.
- In the past ten games, Laila Alves' .481 batting average leads the team.
- Syracuse is the youngest team in the conference, as the 10 freshmen on the roster are the most in the ACC.
- The Orange remain one of the strongest defensive teams in the ACC, as they rank fifth in fielding percentage (.967) and fourth in fewest errors committed (35).
LIGHTS OUT LINDSEY:
- Hendrix tossed the 12th no-hitter in program history against Cornell.
- It was the first seven-inning no-hitter since Alexa Romero's in 2018.
- Hendrix joins Madison Knight as the only Orange duo to pitch a pair of no-hitters in the same season.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS:
- Virginia brings a 29-18 record to Skytop, currently sitting in 8th place in the ACC with a 8-13 record.
- Freshman infielder Jade Hylton leads the team in batting average (.321) and runs batted in (25).
- Fellow freshman Eden Bigham leads the Cavaliers in innings pitched (107.0) and ERA (2.03).
- Virginia is 1-5 in its last five ACC contests, losing a pair of series to Louisville and Florida State.
THE SERIES:
- The Orange and Cavaliers have met 19 times on the softball diamond, as Syracuse leads the all-time series, 15-4.
- The two programs last met in 2021, as Syracuse took three games in a four-game series.
- Syracuse is 7-3 in the last ten games of the series.Â
UP NEXT:
Syracuse hosts Colgate on Wednesday, May 3 for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. Following the doubleheader, the Orange conclude the regular season with a three-game set against Boston College.
