After a weekend off from racing, the Syracuse University men's varsity eight (V8+) ranked No. 5 in this week's IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll. The crew trails No. 4 Princeton by four points in the rankings while No. 1 California, No. 2 Yale, and No. 3 Washington round out the top five spots.
The Orange last raced against No. 12 Cornell and No. 21 Navy on the Cayuga Lake Inlet in Ithaca, N.Y., on April 15. The V8+ set a course record on their way to a third consecutive Goes Trophy victory over the Big Red and Midshipmen.
In the second 2V8+ poll of the season, Syracuse is ranked No. 5 behind No. 1 California, No. 2 Brown, No. 3 Washington, and No. 4 Dartmouth College. The Orange follow closely behind Dartmouth, trailing by only three points.
For the third varsity eight (3V8+), the Orange are slotted at No. 7, four points behind the Big Green of No. 6 Dartmouth. Washington took the No.1 spot followed by No. 2 California, No. 3 Yale, No. 4 Harvard, and No. 5 Brown to round out the top five.
In the Ten Eyck Team Points Poll, Syracuse came in at No. 5 this week behind No. 1 California, No. 2 Yale, No. 3 Washington, and No. 4 Dartmouth. The Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy is awarded to the team with the largest total points across the varsity, second varsity, and third varsity eights at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta in June.
