5/5/2023 6:13:00 PM | Softball
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse softball's eight-game winning streak was snapped Friday afternoon, as the Orange lost the opening game of the Boston College series, 4-2.Â
Boston College starting pitcher Abby Dunning threw a complete game, striking out five while holding Syracuse to two runs on two hits. Starting pitcher Madison Knight and outfielder Taylor Posner logged hits for the Orange.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Eagles scored the first two runs, taking an early lead in the first inning. With two runners on and no outs, outfielder Hannah Slike drove a ball to shallow right field, scoring one run on an RBI-single. Designated player Aleyah Terrell doubled the lead, driving in a run on a fielder's choice, 2-0.Â
After a scoreless second inning, Syracuse tied the game in the third frame. Posner jump started the Orange offense, lining a leadoff double off the right field wall. In the following at-bat, a fielding error from the Boston College outfield allowed Posner to score from second, 2-1. Infielder Tessa Galipeau grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing in infielder Rebecca Clyde for the tying run, 2-2.
Boston College retook the lead in the fifth inning. Infielder Meghan Schouten hit a go-ahead two-run home run to deep center, 4-2.Â
Syracuse scored two runs on two hits, finishing a game with zero errors for the 22nd time this season. The two hits are the lowest in a game for the Orange since Apr. 16 against North Carolina.
Knight got the start in the circle, logging 3.2 innings of work with two strikeouts. Left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix added 3.1 innings in relief, striking out one batter while allowing two runs on five hits.
