The Syracuse 8+ became the first Orange women to race down the Thames River at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-On-Thames on Wednesday. The Orange lost to Oxford Brookes University 'C' in the 2,112-meter Island Challenge Cup race by three-quarters of a boat length. The Henley Royal Regatta format is a knockout competition, with each race consisting of two crews racing side-by-side up the Henley course. Each cup is a single-elimination draw.
Syracuse's eight included coxswain Hannah Murphy, stroke Ellie-Kate Hutchinson, Aphrodite Gioulekas, India Aikens, Olivia Schaertl, Lena Radke, Zoe Acosta, Haley Uliasz and bow Heather Stafford. The Island Challenge Cup field features 24 crews, including nine collegiate crews from the United States (Syracuse, Stanford, Texas, Penn, Radcliffe, Northeastern, Princeton and Georgetown).
