
Volleyball Loses First Two Matches in Kathy DeBoer Invitational

EAST LANSING, M.I. – Syracuse lost its two matches for its second weekend event of the season against Delaware State (3-2) and Michigan State (3-2) at the Breslin Center for the Kathy DeBoer Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University on Saturday.
In the first match of the day, Delaware State took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16. 'Cuse (0-5) had its best showing against Delaware State in the third set, closing the gap and taking several leads in a back-and-forth affair but ultimately lost by three, 25-22.Â
Freshmen Zharia Harris-Waddy and Mira Ledermueller led the Orange offense with hitting percentages of .400 and .500, respectively. Ledermueller also paced the team in assists with 25. Graduate student Lauren McCabe had a team high 11 kills.
Michigan State made quick work of the Orange in the first set, defeating 'Cuse 25-12. The Orange saw themselves in a 2-0 deficit after dropping the second set 25-13. Despite playing from behind most of the third, SU took the lead late in the set putting pressure on the Spartans ahead 24-22. Michigan State rallied and closed the match on a 4-0 run to win the set 26-24 and sweep SU.
 Junior Cherlin Antonio had her best outing of the season, totaling a team high 12 kills on a .375 clip. Ledermueller continued her support in consecutive matches, helping the team with 20 assists. McCabe had a defensive impact in this match, with two solo blocks and one block assist.
Of Note:
·    Freshmen Mira Ledermueller made her mark in her Syracuse debut, totaling 45 assists and six kills in two matches.Â
·    Graduate Alyssa Bert had an impressive six service aces combined from both matches, four against Delaware State and two versus Michigan State.
