Sophomore goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch had a career-high 16 saves, one shy of the school record, but #3 Florida State (7-0-0, 2-0-0) escaped Syracuse's (2-7-1, 0-2-0) upset bid, 3-2, at the SU Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.
The visiting Seminoles broke a 2-2 tie on an unassisted tally from Onyi Echegini with 6:12 left to remain unbeaten. It was Echegini's squad-leading sixth goal of the fall.
ODDEN'S FIRST GOAL A GEM
Junior Liesel Odden, making her second start of the season, earned her first collegiate goal in stunning fashion. She stole a pass from Florida State keeper Cristina Roque and directed her shot into an open net to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead just 2:24 into the game.
SHORT-LIVED LEAD FOR ORANGE
Florida State went right back on the attack after Syracuse's game-opening goal. Beata Olsson found the net at 6:23 and Jordynn Dudley and Ran Iwai each picked up assists. It was Olsson's third goal of the campaign.
HEADING TO THE HALF AHEAD
The Orange held off the Florida State assault for the reminder of the first half and managed to pull ahead in the final minute before the intermission. Syracuse picked up an own goal at 44:31 and entered the break leading 2-1.
THE SEMINOLE COMEBACK
Florida State evened things up at 2-2 when it was awarded an own goal at the 57:02 mark. The Seminoles continued to spend most of the second period in the Orange defensive half but were thwarted by Vanderbosch until Echegini's strike late in the contest.
TO SHEA!
Vanderbosch was busy throughout the match. She posted seven saves in the first half and nine after the intermission, including many from point-blank range. The 16 saves exceeded her previous best effort of nine, which she posted in a 2021 pairing with Virginia.
The Syracuse netminder logged all 90 minutes for the tenth straight outing this fall.

NOTABLE NOTES:
- Vanderbosch completed the game just one save shy of the Syracuse school record (17), set by Shannon Myers in a 2004 contest at Princeton.
- In addition to Vanderbosch's effort, Syracuse had five other players contribute complete-game performances. Seniors Kylen Grant and Kate Murphy and sophomores Alyssa Abramson and Grace Gillard turned in 90-minute showings.
- The Orange played without senior Zoe Van de Cloot, who was back in her native Belgium training with the national team. Van de Cloot had started the first nine games for Syracuse. She is expected to return next week.
- Florida State outshot Syracuse, 32-2. The Seminoles directed 19 of those attempts on goal.
- The Seminoles had four players with at least five shot attempts: Leilanni Nesbeth (6), Onyi Echegini, Jordynn Dudley (5) and Beata Olsson (5).
