’Cuse Tennis Rolls Through Day One in Philly

PHILADELPHIA – The Syracuse University women's tennis team rolled through day one of the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted at University of Pennsylvania's Hecht Tennis Center and Hamlin Tennis Courts.
In a hidden duel-style format, the Orange clashed against Drexel for three doubles matches before a round of six singles matches against host Penn.
In the doubles action, Ines Fonte and Miyuka Kimoto paired to sweep their counterparts 6-0. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Shiori Ito won their matchup 6-1 while Anastasia Sysoeva and Polina Kozyreva handled their opponents by a 6-2 count.
On the singles side of things, Kozyreva won her bout 6-3, 6-2 while Ito notched a 6-3, 6-3 win. Kanapatskaya edged her opponent 6-4, 6-2. Fonte needed three sets to dispatch her Penn foe 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 as Kimoto also went for a three-set win (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).
Syracuse returns to Philadelphia on Saturday for day two of the Cissie Leary Invitational. Action concludes on Sunday back at the Hecht Tennis Center and Hamlin Tennis Courts.
