A busy week for the Orange, freshly ranked seventh in this week's NFHCA Coaches' Poll, as Syracuse takes on local foe Cornell for a mid-week, Central New York showdown. Game time is set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
From the Start
- A busy week awaits the Syracuse Orange as the team competes three times over the next six days, kicking off Wednesday night against local rival Cornell.
- The Orange dispatched Monmouth at J.S. Coyne Stadium by a 5-1 count last week, the lone game on the docket for Syracuse. The win served as the first home game of the 2023 calendar, in addition to the first home win for first-year head coach Lynn Farquhar.
- Wednesday's clash will be carried on ACC Network Extra. Ian Nicholas and Jesse Cook will have the call.
- This will be the first of two meetings between the Orange and the Big Red during a 2023 home-and-home series. The pair rematch in Ithaca on Sunday, Oct. 15 for a 2 p.m. game.
- Syracuse and Cornell will meet at least once for a third-straight season. Syracuse has blanked the Big Red in each of the last three meetings.
- Wednesday serves as the official opener to the 2023 campaign for the Ivy Leaguers, fresh off a 10-7 regular season a year ago. Cornell head coach Andy Smith begins his fifth season at the helm of the Big Red program.

- Striking early (and often) has been a cornerstone for the Orange this season.
- Against Monmouth, Syracuse scored just 43 seconds into the home opener as Willemijn Boogert inserted a corner directly to Pieke van de Pas. Syracuse led wire-to-wire for the 5-1 win.
- Through three games this season, Syracuse has led for a total of 153 minutes of a possible 180 minutes
vs. Sacred Heart (Aug. 26): Syracuse led for 54 minutes, 29 seconds
at Vermont (Aug. 27): Syracuse led for 38:59

Protect Coyne
- Like a bank vault, you have to protect the Coyne.
- Syracuse finished the 2022 regular season with a 9-0 record at J.S. Coyne Stadium this season, allowing just eight goals on the home field.
- Syracuse was one of five 2022 NCAA Division I teams with an untarnished home record through the NCAA Tournament: Syracuse (9-0), Lock Haven (10-0), Maryland (12-0), and James Madison (6-0).
- The Orange have won their last 11 regular season games at Coyne, dating back to a 6-0 shutout over Cornell in October 2021.
- Overall, Syracuse has won 10-straight home wins the longest home winning streak in Division I.
