Puck Drop
- The Orange get ready for their first home-and-home weekend series of the season as Syracuse takes on RPI this weekend. Tennity Ice Pavilion sees a 6 p.m. puck drop on Friday before the Orange head for Troy, New York for the return game on Saturday with a 4 p.m. start time at Houston Field House.
- The weekend's series with RPI will be the first of four home-and-home weekends for the Orange. Syracuse will split the Colgate series at the end of November between Tennity and Hamilton, New York. During Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) action, Syracuse and RIT will split time between arenas.
- Syracuse will play its second and third games of the weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Orange are coming off a narrow 4-2 loss at No. 8 St. Lawrence on Tuesday night, a game that was evenly matched for all by a two-minute stretch in the second quarter.
- Friday's showdown will be carried on FloHockey with Luke Burgess and Rich Rosa on the call. Saturday's game will be on ESPN+.
SPECIAL TEAMS ARE KILLING IT
- Syracuse special teams units have been sturdy through the first three games of the season.Â
- The Orange rank first in the country in power-play percentage, converting at a 60 percent clip this year.
- The penalty kill unit is also among the best in the country, checking in at 11th with an 85.7 kill percentage.Â
- Syracuse is one of six teams in the country to be ranked inside the top 11 in both power play percentage and penalty killing percentage. The Orange are joined by Providence, St. Cloud State, this weekend's opponent RPI, Minnesota State, and Wisconsin.
- Helping Syracuse's cause is taking so few penalties this year. The Orange average just six minutes in penalty a game, which ranks tied for ninth nationally, but is boosted by five time serving penalties in the St. Lawrence game. Syracuse is ranked 14th in the country in total penalty minutes (18).
- Tatum White is currently tied for third in the country for individual power play goals with a pair, averaging .667 power play goals per game.
On McLeod nine(teen)
- Syracuse freshman forward Rylee McLeod was selected as the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday morning.
- McLeod finished her first collegiate weekend with two points, getting her first career goal on Saturday against Stonehill in a 4-0 win.Â
- The Grand Prairie, Albert native got her first goal 3:44 into the third period, while her first career point came on an assist in the second period to Charli Kettyle.
McLeod finished the weekend with a +3 as she was on ice for three of the four Syracuse goals on Saturday.Â
- She added 14 faceoff wins to her line, including a 10-of-15 effort on Friday in the season opener. McLeod went 56.0 percent in the circle over the weekend.
- McLeod was the player guest on this week's edition of Inside Atlantic Hockey America podcast. Head coach Britni Smith joined the podcast as well.
COVER WHO??
- Last weekend, Syracuse gave Stonehill all it could handle as the Orange tallied up eight goals across the two games, scoring four in each contest.
- More unique is that Syracuse had eight different goal getters: Charli Kettyle, Jessica Cheung, Maya 'Darcy, Jackson Kinsler, Rylee McLeod, Jocelyn Fiala, Charlotte Hallett, and Tatum White.
- Syracuse hasn't had at least six unique goal scorers to open a season since the 2016-17 season when Jessica Sibley scored against Bemidji State, Savannah Rennie and Alysha Burris scored at Northeastern, with Stephanie Grossi, Kelli Rowswell, and Heather Schwarz scoring against Colgate before Grossi became the first repeat goal scorer of the year.
- So far in 2024-25, 13 different players have recorded a point, including nine goal-getters.
