SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University women's ice hockey dropped a 2-1 nonconference game Friday evening, a 2-1 decision against RPI at Tennity Ice Pavilion in the first half of a home-and-home weekend between the teams.
Syracuse (2-2-0) got on the board first with a Jackson Kinsler goal, with Sami Gendron and Heidi Knoll on the back end of the power play goal. Allie Kelley made 27 saves in her 57 minutes and 35 minutes of action before she was pulled for the extra skater late in the third. Led by eight blocks by freshman Jessica Cheung, the Orange defense blocked 28 shots, tied for the second-most in a single game in program history and by an individual in a game.
RPI (3-2-0) had two power play goals 10 minutes apart as Aylah Cioffi and Ellie Kaiser scored. Andrea Trnkova and Nina Christof each scored on the first Engineer goal. Maelee Ambrass stopped 14 Syracuse attempts, including six in the second period and four in both the first and third.
How it Happened
We didn't have our best game tonight; I felt we were pretty inconsistent throughout the 60 minutes. Kudos to RPI - they came out really pressing and making us battle for every inch of the ice. For us, our focus is moving into tomorrow('s game at RPI).
