MANAHAWKIN, N.J. – Two Syracuse University field hockey standouts have earned national recognition as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its annual All-America lists Tuesday morning.
Bo van Kempen and Berber Bakermans were among the 48 NCAA Division I student athletes named to the three All-America teams. Van Kempen was named Second Team All-America while Bakermans was selected Third Team All-America. Both were named All-America after earning First Team Mideast All-Region earlier this month.
A First Team All-ACC selection as well, van Kempen led the Orange scoring efforts with 33 points on 15 goals and three assists. She scored goals on 13 penalty corners while also going two-for-two at the penalty spot. She accounted for nine game-winning goals in her graduate season, ranking second in the country in that category. The Zevenaar, Netherlands product ranked No. 14 nationally in goals per game (0.79) and was eighth in the country with eight defensive saves, which ranked second in the ACC.
Playing with the Orange as a graduate student, Bakermans also earned All-Region honors for a third year in a row after picking up Mid-Atlantic honors with Delaware in the previous two seasons. Serving as a co-captain this year, Bakermans played in all 20 games, making 19 starts including the final 17 of the season. Bakermans finished the year with nine points behind a goal at No. 4 Virginia (Oct. 18) and seven assists, including a pair of helpers at Bucknell (Oct. 24).
