MONROE, LA. – Junior Taylor Posner launched two home runs as Syracuse lost to Sam Houston, 3-2, Sunday morning at the Best on the Bayou Classic in Monroe, La.

Looking to come back from a 3-0 deficit, the Orange loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to plate the tying run.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sam Houston scored its first run three batters into the game and later grabbed a 3-0 advantage on Elia Hebel's two-run double down the left field line in the third.

Posner hit her first solo shot of the day in the home half of the third before cutting Sam Houston's lead to one in the sixth.

Sophomore Madison Knight was tabbed with the loss for the Orange, yielding three runs across 2.1 innings. Junior Britney Lewinski tossed 4.2 frames in relief, her longest appearance out of the bullpen this season.

OF NOTE:

Syracuse and Sam Houston are tied, 1-1, in the all-time series.
Posner recorded her first multi-home run game in her collegiate career.
Posner's five home runs are a career-best for the junior.
The Orange have hit a home run in eight of their 14 games in 2024.

Syracuse begins Atlantic Coast Conference play at No. 6 Duke, March 1-3. First pitches are slated for 6 p.m., 1 p.m. and noon, respectively. All three games will air live on ACC Network Extra.
