
Orange Lose Series Finale in Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Junior Laila Morales-Alves hit her second home run of the season as Syracuse lost to Virginia, 7-2, Sunday afternoon in the series finale in Charlottesville, Va.

The Orange are now 13-11 and 1-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while the Cavaliers improve to 17-9 and 5-4 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST VIRGINIA:Â
Virginia took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before putting up a five spot in the second. With a pair of runners in scoring position, Abby Weaver singled home a pair to double the Cavaliers lead. Later in the frame, Kelsey Hackett collected a two-run double before scoring in the next at bat on Shelby Barbee's single up the middle.

Syracuse got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning, courtesy of Morales-Alves. With junior Taylor Posner on second, Morales-Alves sent the 2-0 offering from Virginia pitcher Mikayla Houge over the right-center wall for her second long ball of the campaign.

The Orange used three pitchers in the loss. Junior Britney Lewinski suffered her fifth loss of the season, yielding three runs. Sophomore Julianna Verni tossed the second inning before graduate student Jessie DiPasquale tossed four no-hit innings.
