Orange Lose to No. 21 Hurricanes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Syracuse women's tennis team wrapped up the road portion of the regular season with a loss to No. 21 Miami, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Syracuse (9-9, 3-8) duo of Anastasia Sysoeva and Constance Levivier were first to finish in the number two spot, losing their match to Leonie Schuknecht and Antonia Balzert 6-3. The Hurricanes (8-4, 6-2 ACC) took the doubles point after Emilie Elde and Shiori Ito were defeated by Audrey Boch-Collins and Alexa Noel in the number three spot, 6-2. The pairing of Miyuka Kimoto and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya dropped their match to Xinyi Nong and Isabella Pfennig in the number one spot, 6-4.

In the singles event, Pfennig took down Elde in the number two spot, 6-1, 6-0. Next to follow was Levivier in the number five spot as Boch-Collins grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Miami secured the match-winning point as Noel defeated Kanapatskaya in the number one spot, 6-0, 6-2. In the number four spot, Schuknecht outlasted Ito, 6-1, 7-5.

Ines Fonte went the distance in the number six spot against Nong. Fonte dropped the first set 6-3 before winning the second set, 6-2. Nong achieved victory as she defeated Fonte in the tiebreaking third set, 10-8. Sysoeva got the lone point of the match for the Orange as she bested Balzert in a three-set thriller. After winning the first set 6-4, Sysoeva lost the second set 6-3. In the third set, Sysoeva edged out Balzert, 11-9, to claim the win.

Syracuse will return to the home court next weekend for its final matches of the regular season. The Orange will take on Notre Dame on Friday, April 5 at 3 p.m. before their senior day match against Louisville on Sunday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Fans, be sure to come cheer 'Cuse on and celebrate the seniors at Drumlin's Country Club next weekend!
