Orange Head to Lake Morey Invite
4/26/2024 8:46:00 AM | Men's Rowing
The No. 8 ranked Syracuse men's rowing team travels to Lake Morey, Vermont, this weekend for a trio of races No. 8 Dartmouth, No. 11 Boston University, and No. 17 Georgetown. The Orange will close out the regular season, hoping to complete an undefeated cup season record for the second season in a row. SU's varsity eight, ranked #7 in the IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll, will defend the Packard Cup against No. 10 Dartmouth, as well as the Conlan Cup against No. 13 Boston University.
Â
The Orange enter the races one week after capturing both the Goes Trophy and the Stagg Trophy in the annual matchup against Cornell and Navy. Syracuse earned their fourth-straight Goes Trophy, a program best, with an open water victory in the varsity eight. SU's 2V8 and 3V8 also won, capturing 15 team points, and winning the Stagg Trophy for the fifth consecutive race.
Â
Dartmouth hosts the races this weekend after taking three-of-five races last weekend against Brown. The Big Green took victories in the 2V8, 4V8, and 5V8, but lost by 1.9 seconds in the 3V8 and 8.6 seconds in the varsity eight. Last year, Syracuse bested Dartmouth at Lake Morey in the varsity eight, taking a 2.5 second win over the Big Green.
Â
Georgetown travels to Vermont after competing at the Occoquan Collegiate Invitational on Apr. 14, in Fairfax, Virginia. The Hoyas competed against eight other crews, notably Navy and Drexel. Georgetown took third in the varsity eight, 2V8, and 3V8, and finished second in the 4V8. Last year, Georgetown's V8 and 2V8 fell to SU's varsity eight, 2V8, and 3V8.
