
NCAA Prelims Begin Wednesday

The Syracuse track and field teams will get their NCAA Championship racing underway on Wednesday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The Orange will compete against the top qualifiers in their respective events from the east region, with the top-12 in each event meeting the west region's top-12 for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon in two weeks.

Men's 110-Meter Hurdles – Wednesday, 6 p.m. – Jaheem Hayles
Hayles is looking to advance to his fifth-straight NCAA Championship dating back to the 2022 outdoor campaign. He was the NCAA bronze medalist in this event a year ago and took sixth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 60-meter hurdles earlier this year.
Hayles has the third-fastest season-best mark in the field this week (13.38 seconds), trailing only Ja'Kobe Tharpe of Auburn (13.18 seconds) and Middle Tennessee State's Stephen Eloji (13.28 seconds), but he won't see either in the first round on Wednesday.
He'll be in the first of six heats, where the top-three from each heat, plus next six best times will advance to Friday's NCAA Quarterfinal round. Kentucky's Alexander Chukwukelu (13.51) is the second-fastest competitor in his heat and ranks 22nd nationally in the event.
Men's 1,500-Meter Run – Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. – Benne Anderson
Anderson will look to continue his stellar rookie campaign and is coming off an All-ACC performance in the event at the conference championships earlier this month.
Anderson will compete in the first heat on Wednesday. The 1,500-meters contains four heats, with the top-five runners in each heat and the next four fastest times advancing to Friday's quarterfinals.
Villanova's Liam Murphy has the best time this season in Anderson's first-round heat at 3:36.48. Iona's Damien Dilcher (3:39.42) is second, followed by Harvard's Joe Ewing (3:40.43) and then Anderson (3:40.59). North Carolina's Ethan Strand is the top-seeded runner in the region, but is in heat two. He owns a season-best mark of 3:35.60.
Men's 400-Meter Hurdles – 8:20 p.m. – Elijah Mallard
Mallard will race in the fourth of six heats, where the top-three from each heat plus six runners based on time will advance to Friday's quarterfinal.
Mallard has the sixth-best season mark in his eight-man heat with a time of 51.32 seconds. Tennessee's Clemson Ducos has the best mark in the heat at 48.26 seconds. The east also holds the nation's top-ranked competitor in Alabama senior Chris Robinson (47.95 seconds).
Men's 10,000-Meter Run – 9:10 p.m. – Perry Mackinnon, Paul O'Donnell, Sam Lawler
The Orange's deepest field, with three competitors, will also be the first NCAA Semifinal action of the weekend. The top-12 runners from the 48-man field will punch their ticket to Eugene.
Perry Mackinnon holds the fifth-best time in the region after setting a school record 28:24.38 earlier this year. North Carolina's Alex Phillip holds the nation's top time in 27:51.26. O'Donnell ranks 18th in the east (28:39.11). He and Mackinnon both qualified for the NCAA Championship last season.
Lawler ranks 25th heading into the competition (28:43.99).
Women's 100-Meter Hurdles – 6 p.m. – Shaleah Colaire
Colaire will race in the second heat of the 100-meter hurdles, to start the women's competition on Thursday. The top three from each heat, plus next six times, will advance to Saturday.
Michigan's Aasia Laurencin leads the way in heat two, with a season-best mark of 12.72 seconds. Colaire's best time this season is 13.48 seconds.
Women's 400-Meter Hurdles – 8:20 p.m. – Shaleah Colaire
In her second event of the night, Colaire will race in the second heat of the 400-meter hurdles, where the same qualifying structure is in place.
Campbell's Chastity Pickett has the best time in heat two at a mark of 55.70 seconds. Colaire (59.12) is in this event for the third time in her career in the 400-meter hurdles.
Women's 10,000-Meter Run – 9:10 p.m. – Savannah Roark
Roark looks to get back to the NCAA Championships in the 10k on Thursday night. She enters the meet seeded 10th, where the top-12 finishers will advance to Eugene.
Her season-best mark of 32:50.56 is the 14th-best time in the nation this season, but the east features a loaded field of 12 of the country's top-18 competitors. Florida's Parker Valby holds the top season-best mark at 30:50.43.
Men's 110H | 1500 | 400H Quarterfinals – Friday
Orange athletes who advance to the quarterfinal round will race first on Friday. The 1,500-meter run kicks things off at 5:15, followed by the 110-meter hurdles at 6:15 p.m. and ending with the 400-meter hurdles at 7:25 p.m.
Women's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase – 5:40 p.m. Saturday - Madison Neuner
The ACC runner up in the event, Neuner will open the final day of racing for the Orange. Twelve runners will advance to Eugene from the three-heat quarterfinal, three from each heat and the next-three fastest times.
Neuner will race in heat two, where she has the second-best time this season. The No. 10 ranked runner nationally, Neuner's mark of 9:56.63 trails only Alabama's Doris Lemngole (9:22.31) in the heat. Lemngole is the national leader in the event. Neuner holds the sixth-best time in the region.
Women's 100H | 400H Quarterfinals – Saturday
If Colaire advances in one or both of her Thursday events, she'll race again on Saturday. The 100-meter hurdles will be at 6:15 p.m., followed by the 400-meter hurdles 70 minutes later.
Women's 5,000-Meter Run – 8:10 p.m. – Saturday
Ellie Lawler will close the competition in the NCAA Semifinal round of the 5,000-meter run. She'll be in the second of two heats, where the top-five in each race, plus next two fastest times advance to Eugene.
Lawler enters with the 16th-best time in her heat at 16:01.60. NCAA leader Hilda Olemomoi leads the heat with a time of 15:06.42 from earlier this season.
