
Orange Take Series Against No. 14 Seminoles, Clinch Postseason

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse beat No. 14 Florida State, 13-5, in five innings, to take the series victory Saturday afternoon at Skytop Stadium. With the win, the Orange have clinched a spot in the 2024 ACC Softball Championship.
Syracuse (28-22, 9-15 ACC) used an eight-run second inning to surge its way to the win against the Seminoles (41-13, 19-5 ACC)
Senior Lindsey Hendrix earned her second win of the weekend, striking out three batters in the five innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FLORIDA STATE:
Michaela Edenfield gave Florida State a 3-0 lead in the first, hitting a three-run homer. Junior Taylor Posner cut into the lead in the home half of the frame, singling in sophomore Madelyn Lopez.
The Orange broke the game open in the second, sending 11 batters to the plate and putting up an eight-spot. With the bases loaded, senior Angel Jasso singled to right as Syracuse moved station-to-station. In the next at bat, a Florida State throwing error cleared the bases, giving the Orange a 6-3 lead. Syracuse kept the momentum, as two batters later, junior Laila Morales-Alves launched a three-run shot over the right field wall, catapulting the eight-run frame.
After the Seminoles scored a pair in the top of the fourth, the Orange quickly responded, putting a baker's dozen on the board. Graduate student Rebecca Clyde and Lopez recorded back-to-back RBI singles before Jasso doubled them home, putting the run rule into effect.
Hendrix completed the victory setting Florida State down in order in the fifth, striking out a pair.

- Syracuse defeated Florida State for the fourth time in program history.
- The Orange handed the Seminoles just their third run-rule loss of the season.
- Syracuse scored the most runs against a ranked opponent since March 19, 2010, an 11-3 win against #16/17 Ohio State.
- The eight-run second inning was the most runs scored in a frame against an ACC opponent since March 16, 2018, when the Orange plated nine runs in the fifth inning at Virginia.
- Posner recorded her 42nd RBI of the season, the most by a Syracuse hitter since Sydney O'Hara in 2017.
- Jasso tied Alexis Switenko (2006) for the most hits by a senior in program history with 64.
