
Boogert Named Preseason All-ACC, ‘Cuse Picked Fourth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ahead of the 2024 Syracuse University field hockey season, senior Willemijn Boogert was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its preseason honors Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to Boogert's preseason selection, Syracuse garnered 46 points in the ACC Field Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll, tying for a predicted fourth-place finish. Virginia was the top point getter with 76, including four first-place votes. Reigning national champion North Carolina was one point back with an additional four top votes while Duke was picked third with 63 points and one first-place nod. Syracuse's 46 points tied the Orange with Louisville, followed by Boston College (40), Wake Forest (29) and the two newcomers to the league, California and Stanford, tying for eighth place with 15 points apiece.
An NFHCA Mideast All-Region First Team selection last fall, Boogert returns to the midfield unit for a fourth season at Syracuse. The Beek, Netherlands product had a career-best 18 points a year ago, depositing six goals with six assists, including a viral goal in the opening minutes of the 2023 ACC Tournament. Boogert started in all 19 games as a junior after a 17-point (7g, 3a) season as a sophomore and has served as a primary penalty corner insert player for the last two years.
The Orange host Rutgers on Saturday, August 24 for a noon exhibition game at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Syracuse begins the 2024 season in earnest with a pair of road games in Pennsylvania, leading off on Friday, August 30 with a 3 p.m. game at Lock Haven. Opening weekend wraps up with a noon first push at Penn State on Sunday, September 1 in University Park, Pennsylvania.
